Our History

[custom_frame_left shadow=”on”]Church History[/custom_frame_left]The International Bible Baptist Church and Academy (IBBCA) began in April 1992 as a Bible study held in a garage and attended by five people. The number rapidly grew to 30 in one month.

While discouraging members from “networking”, growing through transfers from other churches, the “church growth” movement encouraged everyone to reach out to their demographic core through relentless soul winning.

The young church’s beginnings were modest, with services held at the Plaza Galeria (near Tita’s Restaurant on East Plaza Blvd.), Salvation Army on Sweetwater Road and other temporary locations. This happened for three years until God led the church to the property in National City, and so, at last, IBBCA found her home at #616 East 8th Street, National City, San Diego, California.

Through the years, IBBCA has seen many people accept Christ as their personal Savior and numerous baptisms which added to the church membership. IBBCA has also put the Gospel into the hands of tens of thousands of people with her outreach ministries. All in all, there are 20 “city-transforming” ministry services that are meant to help change lives for the better in the county of San Diego. The harvest is ready and there is a bumper crop waiting for the reaping.

In September 2012, the Pastor shared with the congregation a vision for the construction of a school building which will be the new home of International Bible Baptist Academy.  Praise God for the wonderful steady growth that has unfolded in these past 20 years.

God’s plan for IBBCA reaches much deeper and wider than the local community. Pastor Plata dreams of reaching the community through “Brother’s Keepers,” building a studio for “old fashioned, spirit lifting, gospel music,” and expanding the church property to meet her ever increasing needs, among other things. Soon, countless people will be able to hear the life-transforming truth of God’s Word in her website.

“We wait in awe and wonder to see God’s plan come to fruition as IBBCA grows in faith and knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ. As the future becomes the present, our goal is to be found faithful,  walking in daily obedience to Him, carrying out our mission to preach the Gospel, evangelize and send out soul winners for the glory and honor of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
